RAGBRAI, the Register’s Annual Great Bicycle Ride Across Iowa, is an annual seven-day bicycle ride across the state. Thousands of cyclists enjoy a week touring the state by two wheels, with stops in eight host cities along the way featuring a huge celebration each night full of live music and entertainment.
For the first year ever, Trans Iowa Equipment became an official Friend of Ragbrai. Having a close relationship with the public works departments in Iowa, Trans Iowa Equipment recognized that although being selected as a Host Community is very exciting and brings excellent business to the town, it also presents a large clean up effort once the bikers have moved on to their next destination.
A team of sweeper operators, bikers and crew members was assembled between several employees in the Macqueen Equipment Group and their families. Each morning the crew split between helping clean up the streets, and hitting the pavement on wheels headed to the next town. In addition to the host cities, there were many fun stops along the way.
The Elgin Crosswind was able to provide a huge help to those cities left with the aftermath of each RAGBRAI night. Each morning required three to four hours of sweeping, in addition to a large effort by each public works department.
Trans Iowa Equipment could not have been more honored and excited to be part of such a huge and historic event spanning across the cities that have been counting on Elgin Sweepers for over 50 years. Next January, the host communities for 2016 will be announced, and Trans Iowa Equipment will gladly be there to help them coordinate their clean up efforts!
